Special Issue Introduction
This special issue on “Diabetic Foot and Ankle Reconstruction” will focus on addressing the most devastating complications related to diabetic foot pathology by emphasizing the importance of a multidisciplinary team approach within the healthcare system. Diabetic foot wounds pose a significant risk for soft tissue infection, osteomyelitis and lower extremity amputation, so expedited and aggressive response for medical optimization and wound closure becomes a priority for the healthcare provider. Advanced techniques in the medical and surgical management of diabetic foot infections, osteomyelitis, Charcot neuroarthropathy, traumatic injuries, plastic surgery and wound care will be covered by international experts in the field of diabetic lower extremity reconstruction.
