Special Issue Introduction

This special issue focusing on therapeutic advances in wound healing will explore the efforts of multidisciplinary lower extremity wound care in a tertiary center. Besides, advancements in plastic surgery, podiatric surgery, orthopedic surgery, vascular surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, and dermatology will be explored. The latest techniques of limb salvage will be presented, including advances in topical therapies, a focus on biomechanics, reperfusion, and microvascular surgery to salvage limb length. When amputation is necessary, techniques to enhance postoperative function will be discussed, through the use of robust posterior flaps and the use of peripheral nerve surgery to limit pain. Finally, the modern delivery systems of multidisciplinary wound care will be described.
