Special Issue Introduction
In this special issue the exciting impact of technology on maxillofacial reconstruction will be presented. With recent advances in the field of reconstruction, clinicians are able to offer patients improved treatment options. Examples of these advances include various technologies such as virtual surgical planning, patient-specific implants, navigation, and tissue engineering. This new frontier has allowed for the combination of these advances culminating in providing patients with the option of a compete jaw reconstruction in a day. With every new technology, clinicians must weigh the advantages and disadvantages as well as the cost and benefit to the patients. The patients with complex maxillofacial injuries/defects resulting from trauma, tumors, or congenital defects have greatly benefited from the new advances in maxillofacial reconstruction.
