Special Issue Introduction
Today, tissue engineering is an interdisciplinary field that applies the principles of engineering and life sciences toward the development of biological substitutes that restore, maintain, or improve tissue function or a whole organ. The impact of stem cell technology on tissue engineering will be revolutionary. The development of stem cell and tissue engineering is becoming more and more important, and it will have a profound impact on the clinical development of plastic and reconstructive surgery. In this Special Issue, discussions focus on state-of-the-art knowledge and the applications about stem cells and tissue engineering in plastic reconstructive surgery. The use of stem cells holds significant promise for the treatment of many injuries and their complications. It includes the treatment of injuries to the skin, wound healing, the improvement with the flap blood supply, sensory organs, hair follicle, anti-aging, the development of novel biosensors, etc.
