Special Issue Introduction
This special issue is dedicated to basic science and clinical interventions which are designed to optimize healing in challenging clinical situations. Examples of these include trauma, infection, and radiation injury, although many others exist.
Our special issue is open for submission of original manuscripts reporting on laboratory experimental findings, clinical investigations, meta-analyses, and systematic reviews of the literature. Our goal is to showcase the contributions of plastic surgeons to the field of wound healing and to expand the concept of wound healing to include both cutaneous and non-cutaneous wounds. As plastic surgeons, we have the expertise in key aspects of tissue healing, including angiogenesis and blood flow, fibrosis, tissue function, and appearance.
