Special Issue Introduction:

Hair loss can have significant psycho-social manifestations. Although there are now several approved pharmacologic options to prevent hair loss, hair transplantation (HTS) is still the most effective method to treat hair loss. To date, HTS has a history of nearly 210 years, which involves the transplantation of hair, beard, eyebrows, eyelashes, and pubic hair; however, HTS is also a relatively tedious surgical procedure, involving the evaluation and design of the recipient site, selection of the donor area, the calculation of hair follicle (HF) number, separation and preservation of HFs, and the process of HF implantation.

  • The distribution of hair in Han Chinese

    Aim: To explore the characteristics of normal hair distribution in Han Chinese. Methods: A total of 146 healthy Han Chinese and 41 patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) were selected as research subjects. Digital photographs of the vertex, temporal, and occipital regions were taken after their hair was trimmed. An image analysis software was used to compute the number of follicular units (FUs) and hairs.
